CHRISTMAS PARTY FOR THE SENIOR CITIZENS
Council recently hosted the Annual Dinner for the elderly at the Vierkant Klip south of Swakopmund. This event has become one of the most popular events on Council’s calendar and is a sign of Council’s appreciation to the contribution made by our senior citizens over the years.
The Mayor who was the keynote speaker at the event stated that we need to celebrate the fact that we are living longer, healthier lives and it is important that these lives should have purpose and meaning. Councillor Shitaleni reminded those in attendance that the senior citizens have laid the foundations of the economic success and prosperity we enjoy today and we are committed to providing them with the services they deserve.
The Mayor cautioned about the financial exploitation of the elderly stating that they are often deprived of their monthly pensions by those close to them and requested the community to report such incidents to the police when they occur. She wished the elderly good health and a prosperous New Year.
The event was a true reunion of the senior citizens of our town as they exchanged passionate handshakes and hugs.
